The Book Club Movable Feast, held at SECCA on February 10, hosted 14 authors and 135 attendees. Called by some as the “author/reader version of speed dating,” this event gave tables approximately ten minutes with many authors with a chance to meet additional authors and have their books signed after the event. Over 25 prizes were also given out We have had great feedback and hope to do this again in 2014! One of our favorite comments came from attendee Racheal Garrity, “I can say without any exaggeration that the experience was one of the best I can remember of this kind of event. In fact, it may be better said that this may break the mold for me. By that I mean, perhaps I've never experienced "this kind of event."
Our 2013 Authors in Schools program is going great! We hope to again reach our goal of authors visiting 4000 students in the Triad area. This spring, we are expanding our Authors in Schools program with three schools where authors will visit the same group of students throughout one semester or quarter. BOOKMARKS is working with teachers to include these author visits as a part of their curriculum.
Below are photos from a recent visit at Bolton Elementary School with author, John Hutton, who talked about setting, illustration and his Sister Maus books. He led the children in a drawing exercise of Sister Maus and Brother Maus.
